What’s New: Kearney Splash Pad and Lion’s Park Renovation!

With all of the uncertainty recently this past year, there is a glimmer of hope: Kearney is adding some exciting new amenities at Lions Park! Kearney is getting a brand-new, free-to-use splash pad and playground behind the Firehouse Community Center! Additions of the splash pad, playground and stage are going to be awesome!

The process took a lot of planning. The City of Kearney, the Enrichment Council, and countless others have collaborated to plan this addition to our town. There were many playground models that were considered during the decision-making process. The 1.2 million dollar project is a large price tag, but it will be worth it!

So, while it may be sad that Lion’s Park is currently under construction, there is a reason to smile! The new and improved Lion’s Park will be completed by June 1, 2021.

There are also different activities for every age group on the playground. There will be an area for toddlers, and a separate area for ages seven and older.

But, wait... There’s more! As if a playground, new stage, parking spaces, and splash pad weren’t enough, there will be a walking trail connecting the park and new metal shelters as well!

You may be wondering, “where in the world did all of the old equipment go?!” The City of Kearney is resourceful with the way they are handling the old equipment. Instead of just pitching it, they are recycling it. Never to fear, the iconic purple and gold playground equipment is just going to the other side of town at Mac Porter Park.

Kearney is sure to be the envy of the Northland with all of its new recreation amenities. Who are you going to bring to the new Splash Pad this summer?
